Content Savy?

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 3, 2009, 11:21 PM

Journal Entry
Woo, I get a week off college and have to write a paper for the military; go figure. Ohter than that I have yet again changed my site layout, but I think I am done with this one: simple and clean with a fair amount of content. I did however, change the site to reflect more of a business rather than a portfolio site.

TT (Web Design/Development)
So, over the years I have been honing in on that perfect website as far as design and development are concerned and have noticed some very interesting things. There are people out there that make beautiful designs and they look truly amazing, but what baffles me is the lack of content development after wards. I am not saying all elegant designs are like this in no way, but when you have a 20hrs design with 4 pages of one paragraph each it kind of defeats the purpose right? The real big thing I notice a lot as well is great graphics, but no consideration for someone's eyesight. People need to start to realize that a black background with a lot of white text is no very appealing on your eyes, or super contrasting colors for that matter. The last thing I have seen a lot of, and this happens most of the time, is over population of information. People don't want to look at 3 columns mashed together with massive amount of information and navigation links. Always use the KISS method when it comes to a layout. When links for navigating are in one spot it really helps people not have to search around. It is really bad on eStores now a days where you have links on the left, right and top of a page. Wondering if any of you other designers are seeing this as well and I can post up some links.

As I pointed out in my design of this journal, the splotch on the top of the page as well as the arrow brushes are NOT of my own. Check out SikWidInk he has some really nice graffiti brushes.
